In structural metal stud framing, the walls and planes are made from cold-formed steel components. The two main parts of a metal stud frame are a stud and a track. Heavy gauge metal studs are used for structural applications, such as external walls, and weight-bearing walls. Lighter gauge metal studs are used for non-load bearing applications including interior walls, half-walls, and partitions.
