Air Damper Guaranteed Best Construction Material Philippines’ Prices

In order to control or stop the flow of air through a duct, chimney, variable-air-volume (VAV) box, air-handling unit, or other similar pieces of equipment, a device known as an air damper is used.

In rooms where air conditioning is not necessary, dampers are also used to stop airflow. Additionally, dampers can be utilized as fire or smoke protection systems.

A sophisticated system with numerous moving parts is an air damper. The blades are their main part, and they move them to change the airflow. Dampers also include, among other things, frames, linkages, axles, bearings, seals, blade pins, actuation motors, flanging, jackshafts, and sleeves.

Types of Air Dampers

Air dampers can be divided into parallel blade and opposing blade types based on how they are built. Each configuration is designed for a different application and has distinct performance characteristics.

1. Parallel Blade Dampers

The blades of this style of air damper rotate in unison and perpendicular to one another. When the damper has two operating states—open or closed—parallel blade design is commonly used.

As they transition from fully open to closed, these dampers reroute air flow through the first few degrees of rotation; as a result, control is obtained during the first 20–30% of movement. These dampers modify the direction of air streams rather than modulating them, which is primarily why they are recommended for open-close operation or fixed flow control.

In applications where the damper accounts for a significant fraction of the overall system pressure loss, parallel blade dampers are frequently used. Due to their unequal airflow, they shouldn’t be employed upstream of crucial components.

2. Opposed Blade Dampers

This kind of air damper modulates airflow by having the blades rotate in opposition to one another. These air dampers can also be utilized for on-off service, however they are typically used when the system needs airflow control rather than open-close operation.

The following applications are typical uses for opposed blade dampers:

  • When the total system pressure loss is not primarily attributable to the damper.
  • Systems that are necessary to keep the airflow consistent downstream from the damper.
  • Terminals with ducts.
