What is CHB in Construction?

Concrete Hollow Blocks or most commonly known as CHB are the main components for concrete wall laying which is a standard dimension (0.4*0.4*0.2) rectangular block used in building construction.

What is the Standard Thickness of CHB?

The 8′ hollow blocks, 6′ hollow bricks, 5′ hollow blocks, and 4-inch hollow blocks are the standard sizes too.

Different molds can be fitted to a set of brick machines, and different molds can produce concrete bricks of various size

A concrete brick-making machine primarily produces it. The basic components are first combined in a specific ratio.

The raw materials are delivered to the brick machine’s mold, vibrated by the vibrating platform, and then produced in the mold by pressing down on the upper mold.

By using a concrete brick producing machine, hollow bricks may be produced in huge quantities while using less labor and raw resources.

The hollow block that is formed also has a high strength and precise dimensions.

How to create CHB?

To create concrete hollow bricks, we can use a variety of brick-making equipment depending on the output.

They are made from cast concrete (e.g. Portland cement and aggregate, usually sand and fine gravel, for high-density blocks).

But can be other material such as industrial waste, biodegradable waste and so on and so forth.

Use of blockwork allows structures and different buildings to be built in the traditional masonry style with layers of staggered blocks or the unconventional way which is straight line with more reinforcement bars in between each layers.

What is the Advantage of CHB?

Concrete hollow blocks provide a number of advantages, including being lightweight, fireproof, soundproof, heat-preserving, impermeable, earthquake-resistant, durable, pollution-free, and energy- and resource-efficient.

In the modern day, green and ecologically friendly building materials are simply necessary.

A significant component of today’s new wall materials, concrete hollow bricks have a wide development window and promising future.

Where are CHB mostly used?

In non-load-bearing areas, hollow bricks are frequently employed.

The porosity percentage is equivalent to or higher than 35%.

Bricks are referred to as hollow if they have numerous huge empty areas between them.

While in the construction business, hollow brick is the primary type of wall material employed.

It has emerged as the first product the national construction agency recommends due to its advantages of light weight and low raw material consumption.

CHB Common Pattern and Arrangement

The process of joining CHB to form a wall is referred to as “structural bonding.”

Because the framed structure of a building serves as the support system for the entire structure, structural work is an essential part of construction, particularly when building a high-rise.

Concurrently, the strength of your walls and their ability to tolerate specific situations will depend on the sort of CHB bonding you have.

You can refer to this list of CHB bonding patterns and arrangements that we have created.

However, let’s define a few concepts we’ll need, like “headers” and “stretchers,” before we get started.

The portion of the brick (or CHB) that is set width-wise along the wall is called the header(s), and the portion that is laid lengthwise along the wall is called the stretcher(s).

1. Running Bond

It is the most common form of CHB bonding in construction.

Since headers are not utilized in this kind of bonding, the stretchers that make up the CHB are offset by half a block for each course.

To reinforce the CHB, rebar and mortar are typically filled in around the core.

2. Common or American Bond

The running bond variant known as the Common or American bond features a series of full-length headers spaced at regular intervals.

Depending on the requirements, the headers offer a structural bonding and pattern that occurs at the fifth, sixth, or seventh course.
