Sealant is a sort of mechanical seal that is used to prevent fluids from passing through surfaces, joints, or gaps in materials. Sealant is frequently referred to as caulking in the construction industry, and it is used to prevent dust, sound, and heat transfer. Sealants can be weak or strong, flexible or stiff, long-term or short-term. Although sealants are not adhesives, some of them have adhesive properties and are referred to as adhesive-sealants or structural sealants.
Sealant is mostly used for insulation and grouting. They may be able to move 25% of the time. The flexibility ratio can be raised further if necessary. It is used for sealing, filling gaps, keeping water and air away from joints, absorbing natural building material motions, and improving aesthetics.
Despite their lack of strength, sealants have a number of advantages. They seal top structures to the substrate and are very useful in waterproofing operations because they keep moisture out (or in) the components. They can act as fire barriers and offer thermal and acoustic insulation.
Polyurethane sealants are a type of sealant that has high surface adhesion and low flexibility. These are mainly used for repairing, resealing, and restoring crack surface areas such as damaged joints, concrete cracks, rain gutters repairs, and many more.
Polyurethane Sealants Used for Sealing Purposes
Low modulus polyurethane sealants have a Shore A hardness of up to 45. It is utilized in prefabricated building element joints, rainfall collecting pipe joints on roofs and in rain gutters, insulating connections between precast concrete blocks, and sealing aluminum pipe joints in the HVAC (ventilation) industry.
Polyurethane sealants are also known as polyurethane construction sealant, polyurethane sealant, non-staining polyurethane sealant, UV resistant PU sealant, bubble-free polyurethane sealant, and modified silicone sealant.
Polyurethane Sealants Used for Bonding purposes
Adhesive sealants are polyurethane sealants with a Shore A hardness of 45 or above. They have a strong surface adhesion but a limited degree of flexibility. Specifically used in the automotive sector in the production of automobiles, auto glass repair, the sealing of metal structures such as containers and trucks, the manufacture and installation of air conditioning in HVAC systems, to minimize vibration and provide sealing in metal sheet joints.
Polyurethane adhesive sealant, exceptionally strong polyurethane sealant, Premium polyurethane sealant, PU auto glass adhesive, PU metal adhesive, PU glass adhesive, and PU marine adhesive are typical market names.
